Daikoji Jishokaku

ADDRESS: 62 yontakimoto, daikoji, hirakawa-city, aomori-prefecture

A shimenawa hanging over the torii gate at the entrance to the precincts. This woven rope that hangs like a large curtain is called janbara weave. The origin of the dedication is unknown, but it has a history of over 100 years. It is said that it comes from the fact that in the olden days, straw was woven from smoked straw and put on the back of a horse to ward off insects, and it is said to have the meaning of ‘repelling evil spirits’. It is said that the Janbara weave that hangs over all three shrines in the Daikoji area is hand-made by parishioners every two years, and is unique to the Tsugaru region.
